Situated 17 miles north-west of central London and just inside the M25, Watford has become a major retail destination in Greater London.
With the Intu Watford (formally known as the Harlequin Shopping Centre) which houses 140 retailers, much pressure has been cast on the surrounding areas and the high streets. Some of the retailers found within the Intu include; John Lewis, Apple, Boots and Foot Locker. Along with the shopping centre, Watford also houses Colne Valley Retail Park whose tenants include DFS and Harveys and a major Tesco Superstore which putting further pressure on surrounding high streets.
Watford's high street retail area of Market Street and High Street still sees a high footfall because their close proximity to Intu Watford, with MacDonalds and Nero located on High Street.
Watford was once regarded as one of the most popular office locations in the north sector of the M25 where Clarendon Road attracted major office occupiers including KPMG, T K Maxx, The Inland Revenue and Baker Tilly. However, this once popular stretch has fallen foul to the downturn where rents have dropped and space has become very difficult to let.
